How to Gift Audible Audiobooks

There’s nothing more thoughtful than giving a bookish present to your favorite reader. But while a physical book is easily wrapped in paper and placed under the tree, digital content can be trickier to gift. Audible offers a solution: its audiobooks are available to purchase and redeem as gifts for friends and loved ones. Here’s how to do it.

First, log in to your Audible account on a computer or smartphone. Then find a title that your recipient might enjoy and click the “More Options” button on the product page to open the gifting menu. From there, select “Buy as a Gift” and enter the recipient’s name and email address. You can also include a personalized message. When you’re done, click “Continue” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase.

Alternatively, you can purchase an audiobook as a gift from the Audible app using similar steps. In this case, the app will ask you to choose a card design and delivery date (or skip this step and simply tap “buy now”). You can also select whether or not you want the gift to be sent via email or print it and deliver it yourself. Once you’re ready to check out, the app will show you your purchase details and let you double-check the giftee’s information before submitting.

Once you’ve purchased an audiobook as a gift, your recipient will receive an email with a link to download the file from Audible. The link will remain valid until the recipient claims it or expires. You can view the claim status in the “Gift History” section of your Audible account.

Gifting a prepaid plan

If you don’t have enough credits to purchase a single audiobook, you can still give someone an Audible subscription by visiting the Audible website and selecting a pre-paid plan. You’ll be prompted to customize the gift, including selecting the card design and delivery date (or skipping this step and sending the gift immediately). After confirming your purchase, Audible will send you an email with detailed instructions for printing the downloadable gift card and delivering it yourself.
