Sorabh Pant is one of the top comedians of India. Now, what should one expect from a book written by him? Well, I am sure I don’t need to tell you that. Under Delhi was sent to me by Hachette India for review and I was in no mood to pick it up until one day I wanted to read something light and ended up reading this one. I can’t even count the number of times this book made me grin and laugh out loud. Filled with wit and sarcasm, Under Delhi by Sorabh Pant is a book that satisfied me as a reader beyond my expectations.
The book is about Tanya Bisht. A day time sales executive for a real estate firm and a night time messiah for girls who have been wronged by men somehow, anyhow. Tanya is just another Delhi girl but in the book her character is someone who breaks all kinds of notions and stereotypes that people have about Delhi girls. Tanya’s character is highly inspired from Bollywood but I am not complaining. She has her own problems to deal with but somehow she survives through each day and enjoys being in her second skin as the lady Shehanshah of Delhi. I will not delve deeper into the plot of the book and will let the reader explore on his own.
Coming to Pant’s writing, he is downright hilarious. His wit and sarcasm works throughout the book. The writing is simple and easy to connect with. The book is a page-turner and it will make for a nice Sunday read. Give it a shot.
