I love reading thrillers and in my opinion, the best way to enjoy a thriller is to finish the book in one go and if you are able to finish a thriller in one go, then it is definitely a good book. And that’s what happened with The Steradian Trail by M.N. Krish. Despite getting absolutely no time because of work commitments, I picked this book up as my saturday night read and I just couldn’t stop reading it till I finished it.
Also, I am a firm believer of the fact that if a murder takes place in the first few pages of a thriller, then it is going to be a sure shot entertainer. A murder in the first few pages ensures one hell of a roller coaster ride and it gives me as a reader a lot of reasons to look forward to finish the book. In The Steradian Trail, Jeffrey a criminal genius and student of world renowned computer scientist at MIT, Joshua Ezekiel is shot by the killer. With two bullet wounds on his body and a few minutes to live, Jeffrey ensures that he leaves enough clues for his professor to find his real killer and that clue is a magic number which marks the beginning of one hell of a ride for Joshua.
Joshua’s friend Lakshman who is also a professor along with his student Divya decide to back Joshua’s search for the killer of his student. The mess and mayhem caused by his death is too much to deal with but the trio with their sound knowledge about science and technology along with external help from the people who knowingly and unknowingly help them in connecting the dots to reach the real culprit.
As the story unfolds, it just gets messier for three of them. The more they dig into the evidences and clues, the more complicated it gets for the trio. Divya is exceptionally smart and when it comes to cracking codes and analyse the clues, she gives Sherlock Holmes a run for his money or should I say, Robert Langdon. She along with the two professors ardently follow the sinister trail of secrets left by Jeffrey and discover an ancient Indian city about which none of them could have ever imagined in their wildest dreams and when they crack the code, it leaves them ballistic and the after effects of it are just too much to handle. Religion, mythology intertwined with sound knowledge & usage of Science & Technology, the story oscillates between the ancient & modern worlds.
This was the first book by M.N Krish that I had read and he has definitely managed to impress me with his storytelling skills. Though, at times I felt that the story is getting dragged a bit too much but when I finished reading the book, I was content. The nature of the story is definitely gripping and the author being himself from MIT has showcased how good he is at the stuff that he knows. For me, The Steradian Trail was an intelligent thriller and let me also tell you that this is the Book #0 of The Infinity Cycle, which means there are some other potboilers in line.
Overall, the book is worth giving a shot and will definitely make a good weekend read. All you have to do is spend time with it and make sure you spend some uninterrupted 8-10 hours with it. It would not fail to impress you, I can vouch for that.
