What is the sign of a good book? For me, a good book is what you want to finish in a single sitting, uninterrupted and want to absorb everything that it has got to offer. The Race Of My Life according to me is a good book because it fulfilled all the above stated conditions for me. Milkha Singh ji is a legend and after I watched the cinematic brilliance Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, I couldn’t resist myself from laying my hands on this book. Thanks to the publishers, Rupa Books who sent me a review copy without even asking for it.
The Race Of My Life will inspire you at various levels. Almost everyone who has seen the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is aware of the adversities that Milkha Singh ji has dealt with a youngster. He survived the partition, saved his life while his family was butchered to pieces. He refused to be outspaced by life or circumstances and came out victorious and how.
The book restored my faith in the quote “Success is all about dedication and sheer hardwork” and you will understand why I am saying this. The narrative of the book is extremely gripping and because its remarkably candid. You would feel the energy in the words when Milkha Singh ji won his first ever gold in athletics for India at the Commonwealth Games and the sadness when you read the hardships he had to face to achieve all this.
I strongly recommend this book to every person who is a reader or a non-reader. It deserves to be read. One must know about The Flying Sikh, the person who had put our country on a pedestal that I believe no other sportsperson had done in all these years.
