I love the movie, The Notebook but I had no idea that this movie was based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks. I got to know it when the book graced my reading shelf, thanks to the publishers. As much as I love watching romantic movies, I am not into reading books of romance genre much. I normally avoid them but its because of The Notebook, I decided to read Nicholas Sparks’ latest, The Longest Ride.
The Longest Ride is about two couples living far away in their own worlds and then something happens and their lives unexpected cross each other and converges in the most shocking ways. Ira & Ruth, Sophia & Luke, both these couples are dealing with their own share of lemons that life has thrown towards them. While ninety one year old Ira Levinson is struggling to stay conscious after a car crash, Sophia, a college student, is dealing with a real bad break-up that she recently had.
The book takes you to world war II days and the lives of Ira & Ruth, how they met during such dark times, its effect on their families and how they lost all they had in the mayhem of the war. On the other hand, one fine day, Sophia bumps into Luke, who is young, rugged and takes Sophia to a world that she had never imagined for herself.
Nicholas Sparks weaves magic through his words. His storytelling skills are something that would force a reader to delve deeper into the emotions and lives of the characters. He successfully managed to paint everything vividly through his words and my eyes were moist towards the end and I still don’t know I was happy or sad for what happened in the story. Overall, for all those who love reading books of romance genre, The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks is definitely something that they should pick as their weekend read.
