Graphic novels have their own charm and if one is a well crafted novel then the joy of reading it just doubles. Mumbai Confidential came across as a pretty well thought and well executed graphic novel. Written by Saurav Mohapatra and Vivek Shinde, it takes the reader to the dark and dingy corners of the business capital of India, Mumbai. 140 pages and an extremely dark theme, this book can be read from cover to cover in an hour and you would want to go back to it again.
Arjun Kadam is one of the stars of Mumbai Encounter Squad that is on a mission to decimate some of the big names of the underworld. Glitz, glamour and underworld, if one gets everything together, it becomes extremely tough for a person to not to get sucked in. Same thing happens with Kadam, when he wakes up from a month long coma and figures out what made him put in coma for almost a month and look life of a street kid. Arjun makes it a mission of his life to find the real culprit and gets quickly sucked into a vortex that is filled with violence, corruption, life, deceit, treachery that once he was a part of.
I liked Mumbai Confidential. It gripped me from the word go and I have already read it twice and have suggested it to a couple of people who love reading such stuff. The graphics of the book take you to a different world altogether and adds power to the narrative. The writing is crisp and in-your-face and hits you hard at times but I believe the plot is such that it was very much needed. Overall, thumbs up for Mumbai Confidential and I hope people read it.
