Hatching Twitter – Nick Bilton

hatching-twitter-400x400-imadqbtkuphyzy9jI love Twitter for a simple fact that it lets me speak my mind and I don’t have to give two hoots about what people think of me there. In last 4-5 years, I have spent a lot of time on twitter, have met more than 150 people from there and have made some friends for the lifetime. I personally think, Twitter has revolutionised the entire idea of social networking and is seeing the best of its times in these days.

When Hatching Twitter by Nick Bilton graced my bookshelf, thanks to its publishers, I was extremely excited. I left what I was reading back then and started off with this book and throughout the book, I felt like I was reading a thriller. Nick Bilton, a columnist and report at New York Times has done a fantastic job in putting it all together. I never had any idea about what all went behind the visuals my twitter timeline and how twitter became what it is today.

I never had any idea that four hackers, namely Evan Williams, Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Noah Glass were behind the twitter. I always thought of them as some IT geeks who knew what they were doing. But, like every other IT startup, twitter has also seen its share of ups and down and how? I must give it to Nick for investing so much time in putting this whole book together. More than 65 hours of interviews, tons of pictures, tweets, blog posts, articles and a whole lot of other stuff was scrutinised by the author to put this 300 odd pages together.

Also, the thing that I really loved about this book is the fragments of conversations between the founders that have been embedded in the narrative. It has made the book so realistic in many ways and helped me as a reader in understanding the psychology of the people behind Twitter.

For me, Hatching Twitter was one hell of a ride and I strongly recommend this book to all those who used Twitter religiously. There is a lot that we all need to know about Twitter as a company, and Hatching Twitter throws strong lights on these things.
