Choosing a Chandelier 6 Light

A chandelier 6 light is a focal point for any space and can make a bolder statement than a pendant. The key is to choose the right size to suit your needs. Too small and it can get lost; too big and it may overwhelm the room. Here are a few tips to help you determine the best size for your space:

A good rule of thumb is to allow 2-3 inches of chandelier height for every foot of ceiling height. For a standard 8-foot ceiling, this would mean the bottom of the fixture should hang about 24 inches above the table. However, this is not a hard and fast rule; visual density and the style of the light should be considered as well.

In two-story foyers, it is recommended that the chandelier be hung slightly lower than or at eye level when viewed from the top of the stairs. This prevents people from having to look down at the lighting and allows you to take in the overall design of the entryway.

For bedrooms and living rooms, a chandelier should be about half the width of the dining or kitchen table. This will provide the appropriate amount of lighting without overpowering the space. If you want the chandelier to double as a nightstand light, consider hanging it 20 to 30 inches above your bed. This will give you a nice, romantic glow while you are in bed and ensure that you don’t bang your head when you reach over to the nightstand to grab your book or alarm clock.

For smaller spaces, a flush mount or semi-flushmount fixture is the way to go. These will not require a lot of room on the ceiling and they will also be more cost effective.

If you are looking to create a more formal entryway, try a large, elegant chandelier. This will add a sense of grandeur to the space and make it feel more spacious. It can also serve as a focal point for the entire home and be a conversation piece when guests come over.

For more casual spaces, a mini chandelier can be used to light the hallway leading to your door or even as a focal point in the bedroom. Just remember that the bottom of the fixture should be about 30 to 36 inches above your table. You don’t want it to be too high or else it will obscure your view of the television and other sight lines in the room.
