Couple of months back when I visited Random House India’s office, the fresh copies of Jana Bibi’s Excellent Fortunes had landed there. The editorial and marketing team were pretty excited about the book and as you can see the cover of the book is sweet.
If I have to sum up the entire book in one word, I would say, charming. A well thought cast and the way book progresses from the very first page is something that keeps you hooked to it. Set in a small fiction town of India named Hamara Nagar, is the house of various quirky people. To attract tourists to the town, a plot is conceived to make Jana into a fortune teller. She begins the business of Jana Bibi’s Excellent Fortunes, thus the title of the book. This is all done in order to save the town from getting tormented.
The book opens at a very promising note. Telling a bit about Jana’s life and how she has inherited this house in which she is living in India of 1960s. All and all Jana Bibi’s excellent fortunes will make a great summer read. Its fresh, good humoured and a gentle story which will find its own way to touch your heart.
